European Standards

Product standards for plastics pipe systems are prepared within the standards committee known as CEN/TC155.

Product standards are prepared in Working Groups that report to TC155. TC155 plenary is finally responsible and decides on general issues, co-ordination, procedures and voting. All TC decisions are reported to CEN Central Secretariat for formal approvals. CEN Central Secretariat arranges final voting and is watching the agreed planning of work.

TC155 consists of officially nominated national delegations, mainly consisting of experts from our industry but also from test and certification institutes and national normalisation bodies. The policy of a national delegation within TC155, is decided in the national mirror committee, which consists of users, manufacturers, institutes and in some cases competitors.

Structure of CEN/TC155

TC155 developed a whole range of product standards for all plastics piping products that are the basis for Voluntary Quality Marks.
A set of four harmonised standards have also been developed and issued which is the basis for CE marking. These standards cover the following respective Soil & Waste, Drainage and Sewer, Pressure and Hot & Cold.

The policy regarding standardisation of products is defined in TEPPFA Working Group CEST. TEPPFA application groups are also on hand to provide any necessary information..

Another important standardisation work is done in CEN/TC164 and TC165. These committees deal respectively with general requirements for water supply and non-pressure applications. Experts of TC155 are participating in several working groups of TC164 and TC165.

In parallel with TC155, also on ISO level product standards are developed. TEPPFA experts are engaged to adjust these ISO standards as much as possible with similar EN standards. ISO/TC138 prepares the standards in several sub-committees and working groups. Sub-committee 5 (SC5) prepares standards for test methods that are also applied in EN standards.
