Plastic pipe dataaround Europe

Workers’ safety is our highest priority!

All TEPPFA member companies are committed to continuously improve safety performance with the ultimate goal of zero accidents. There is a special taskforce to support TEPPFA Members in this undertaking. The task force members are the HSE experts from the companies which allow the best available knowledge of the European pipe industry to be represented.

One of the taskforce activities is benchmarking among the members:

“How is my company performing compared with the industry average?”

Every year since 2012 we have collected statistics from each of the TEPPFA company members on such topics as: the number of injuries with absenteeism per million working hours (LTIF) as well as the severity rate (average number of lost days). Important to note, that all figures are anonymized so that each company can only compare against the TEPPFA average and not against each individual company.

The average LTIF for the industry in 2016 was 8.3 accidents per million working hours. A drop of more than 20% compared to 2015 figures!

Furthermore, the statistics gives us detailed information on the types of injury. During the last couple of years it has become evident that one single area is by far the most prone to accidents: handling and logistics. In 2016 more than 30% of the accidents were linked to this area. We have therefore initiated a procedure of sharing the best safety practices in logistics where each individual member explains measures they have taken to work safely. In order to support the discussion and to share knowledge, current activities of the task force include further collection of statistics and studies about which body parts are injured.

The task force is headed by Sibbald, Manufacturing Excellence Officer at Pipelife and in total the group has 8 members.  All of us are committed to helping and learning from each other for the sake of enhanced safety of workers.
